Although it is one of the fastest-growing communities in northern Illinois, Gurnee retains a small-town atmosphere. The heart of Gurnee is the Village Center. The Center has distinctive signage, lighting, landscaping, and special zoning. Many governmental services are found in the Village Center as well as schools, parks, library and dozens of businesses. West of the Village Center is a business corridor which features two of the area's largest tourist attractions: Six Flags Great America and Gurnee Mills. Hainesville has the distinction of being the oldest incorporated community within Lake County (1847). Within the past ten years, Misty Hill Farms and Deerpoint Trails have also been built. LAKEMOOR is located in Eastern McHenry and Western Lake Counties along State Route 120, 1 1/2 miles west of U.S. Route 12 and 3 1/2 miles east of the City of McHenry. Lakemoor has a mixture of new and old residential areas, commercial and industrial areas. open spaces, unspoiled nature and plenty of trees with unlimited access to boating, fishing, skiing and snowmobiling. The Village of Volo wasn’t officially incorporated until 1993. Volo’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan calls for 50% residential, 40% commercial and 10% open space. Village Officials are committed to maintaining a family-centered community. Volo is home to the Volo Auto Museum and Antique Malls. Listed in Chicago Magazine as one of its top "101 Things To Do", the museum is known worldwide for its multi-million dollar collection of nearly 300 antique and famous cars, which it displays year round in five climate-controlled showrooms.
